		<description>About Superior Songs

	 As the music licensing / publishing arm of acclaimed record label Superior Viaduct, Superior Songs strives to support challenging and innovative artists. Our team – headed up by music industry veteran John Foster – is proud to have helped license music for worldwide campaigns for everyone from Microsoft Xbox to Volkswagen, fashion houses like Chanel to retailers like JC Penney, hit shows like Stranger Things and American Horror Story to Fox Sports NASCAR coverage, incredible documentaries to mega blockbusters and everything in-between.
	John Foster Director, Creative Licensing, began an intertwined love of music and design as a brash teen studying his 4AD record sleeves sprawled out on his bedroom floor. It was his talent as a designer that quickly led him to acclaim. Authoring several essential books on design, and speaking at events all around the world, he rose to VP, Creative for one of the top agencies in the U.S. Here, he learned the ins and outs of music licensing at every scale from the creative side. As he eventually shifted to the label side, that understanding would pay massive dividends as he helped pair the perfect artist and content, while expertly navigating budgets and deadlines. He remains at the ready to talk about any projects that you might have, or in depth about the global shift in poster design in the late 90s.

		<description>News

Okay, the pandemic should have given us time to catch up on news, but it hasn't (sorry!) I can quickly say that last year was incredible for Noveller, helping score the Anthony Bourdain documentary "Roadrunner", soundtracking a series of short films for Jim Jarmusch, and appearring in Mark Ronson's Apple TV series.............................................................................................

Okay, we forgot to keep updating the news after launching the site. However, we have been super busy with songs involved in everything from Beyonce’s Netflix special, a documentary about the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, an upcoming film from Irvine Welsh, kickass surfing videos and somehow helping Bailterspace show up in an episode of Young Sheldon............................................................................................. 05/01/2020
Congratulations to Le Volume Courbe for being celebrated as one of the favorite tracks to be featured on the series Killing Eve.

Superior Viaduct has reissued the long anticipated&#38;nbsp;Pop Surgery by John Bender. Following his I Don’t Remember Now / I Don’t Want To Talk About It and Plastic Falling discs, Pop Surgery was his final album, fully capturing his arrant decontruction of the “pop” concept. Bender’s brilliant work continues to influence current artists and that should only grow with this release............................................................................................. 08/31/2018

Superior Songs is proud to announce that the haunting Cindy Lee track “Power and Possession” will be used by director Julian Klincewicz in his film Misericordia for the fashion house Ter et Bantine............................................................................................. 07/13/2018

Fresh off a world tour with Iggy Pop, Noveller is working on scores for several films, as well as a performance piece for a modern dance company. Should be an exciting summer before beginning work on her next album.

Universally praised, Diamond Jubilee was shortlisted for the 2024 Polaris Music Prize, and already hailed by Pitchfork as the 3rd best album of the 2020s, anticipation and conversation around the record has been high. Cindy Lee is the performance and songwriting vehicle of Patrick Flegel (who previously fronted influential indie group Women). Over several albums, Flegel has combined delicate melodies and sheer beauty with moments of experimentation. With Diamond Jubilee, Flegel's undeniable songcraft comes to the foreground, embracing a more instant connection and accessibility. Timeless tales of love and longing, surrounded by sticky hooks, take the listener on an unforgettable journey.&#38;nbsp;

Performing in the past under the names Dirty Beaches and Last Lizard, Alex Zhang Hungtai has become one of the most exciting artists in the world under his own name. Whether kicking up some growling skronk and roll on stage in an epsiode of Twin Peaks, or delivering an album of heartbreaking ambient meditations, he never ceases to surprise and amaze. His explorations have included everything from agressive free jazz combos to dark sound collages to haunting piano instrumentals. The one constant is Alex’s soulful searching and constant growth as an artist as he has assembled an ever expanding catalog of unmatched emotional depth.

“Throughout his career, Zhang has invited us to see the beauty in grit. But here, he presents us with a new challenge: to bear the crushing burden of relentless splendor” – Pitchfork

Flaming Tunes' sole release is perhaps the finest elegy to the '80s home recording ethos that you've never heard. Originally released in 1985 on cassette (with individually hand-colored covers), this self-titled album grew out of the collaboration between childhood friends Gareth Williams and Mary Currie.Williams is best known as a member of English art-rock band This Heat. After leaving the group in the early '80s, he travelled to India where he studied classical Kathakali dance – an experience that would profoundly shape the music of Flaming Tunes.In an old Victorian house in South London, the duo recorded during the day while Currie's young son attended school and Williams conducted tape treatments at night. They were joined by various guests including This Heat guitarist Charles Bullen as well as long-term collaborators Martin Harrison&#38;nbsp;and&#38;nbsp;Rick Wilson.
Using whatever instruments they had on hand (clarinet, piano, bells, etc.), Flaming Tunes create lo-fi melodies around simple arrangements, oblique rhythms and densely layered natural sounds. The results are a mesmeric collage of instrumental daydreams and sideways pop songs, floating into one another in a hazy confluence of late '60s Canterbury psych-folk and early Residents experimentation.All of these beguiling elements converge in a personal manner, quietly insistent in listeners' ears like the blood pulsing in one's veins on a warm summer day..

“It's packed with precious examples of music as unassumingly joyous and
syncretic as Don Cherry's finer moments, albeit arrived at through very
different routes. A rare kind of compliment, but then it's a rare kind
of record. ” – The Quietus

The playfulness of Stereolab injected deep into the dubby jazzy coolness of Portishead, Everything But The Girl jamming with Massive Attack, the Tara Clerkin Trio are just plain brilliant. Recently honored with Best New Track for “Somewhere Good” by Pitchfork, and already a favorite of forward thinking music festivals like Big Ears, Le Guess Who, Making Time and others, they are poised for a big breakthrough.

The Bristol trio of Tara Clerkin, flanked by brothers Sunny-Joe Paradiso and Pat Benjamin, were already close to perfect on their earlier releases, like a Broadcast by the sea, but on their first full length Somewhere Good (out May 30th) they take a great leap forward. Beautifully clean and clear melodies float like singsong birds over shifting and intricate compositions that find the details in the missing spaces. This is music that reminds you why you love music.

		<description>Carla dal Forno
Finding her footing in a number of groups in Australia, Carla dal Forno truly came into her own when she moved to Berlin and began making these personal songs around simple basslines and cascades of synths. Her creations have a dream-like quality and can leave the listener furtively racing through dark and rainy alleyways or drifting in and out of the room while sneaking along the edges of the wall. It’s shadowy, yet intensely intimate. It’s also rooted in deep melodies and once you start one of her albums you can easily find yourself listening to nothing else for days and days.&#38;nbsp;

“Smoky and ominous, Australian singer/songwriter Carla dal Forno simmers, both musically and thematically, while she inhabits the gloom of her arrangements like a ghost.” – Pitchfork

“She takes care to lay out her mysterious music for us – a music that
feels timeless and ancient, full of uneasy memories and dark secrets.
And, further, a music that feels potent and sensual, like a slow moving
river.” – The Quietus

Henry Flynt took a high-brow approach to so-called low-brow
music. Combining sounds from his native North Carolina with an
avant-garde sensibility honed in New York City's loft scene in the 1960s, Flynt created what he describes as "new American ethnic music." As a student of Hindustani singer Pandit Pran Nath alongside La Monte Young and Terry Riley, an associate of the Fluxus movement, and even a live collaborator with the Velvet Underground, Flynt was a part of one of the 20th century's richest art and music milieus.

"Flynt’s music is very, very fun, as demonstrated fully by his chooglin’ avant-hillbilly double LP Graduation, this is an eccentric, singular piece of work, to be sure, but it’s also infectious as hell. Over the course of eight loose-limbed tracks, Flynt re-imagines wide swathes of American music, blending Appalachian folk, Nashville countrypolitan, Lower East Side folk rock, experimental classical music and deep disco grooves. The end result is well-nigh impossible to pin down, but you can slot Graduation next to Arthur Russell’s similarly adventurous genre hops from around the same period." – Aquarium Drunkard
